Summer Newborn Session Along Jersey City’s Waterfront
Can you handle this sweetness?! This little babe’s outdoor shoot is actually the result of some pandemic-era creativity. Like with most industries, photographers had to be flexible in order to shoot in a COVID-safe way that would protect both clients and crew. Indoor sessions were paused for months, but this allowed the opportunity to explore outdoor sessions, virtually guided shoots, and other unique solutions.
Typically newborns are shot indoors since it’s warm, cozy, and already has everything tiny humans—and new parents—need. But this past summer, we introduced newborn shoots outdoors, and the results have been incredible. Like this magic right here! You can‘t miss the photos of big bro pup and his new best friend.
Shot at Liberty State Park in New Jersey, this sweet newborn session was a total success. The skies were overcast. The weather was warm. The soft breeze kept the baby nice and sleepy for almost the entire session. We were able to recreate that warmth and coziness of an indoor shoot but with the wonder and beauty of a city skyline backdrop and nature all around it.
With outdoor sessions, I ask families to bring blankets and pillows to create a comfy setup and to make sure that baby’s belly is full.
A fun behind-the-scenes moment: We actually matched mama’s yellow dress and baby’s hairband during retouching since they were just slightly different yellows. Special little touches like that are exactly what you can expect from your final, hand-edited images.
